Some great pics on this site, and some fab info too... how interesting to look back to how it was back then in the mid-70's. And how much times have changed!!

Very nice link. I've just spent a lovely half an hour looking round the site and reading up on various Monsters Off Rock festivals I've been to :).

I've also been trying to remember the name of this band I used to love but could not for the life of me think of it. All I can remember is listening to them on the train into London years ago and enjoying it so much I nearly sang out loud    .

They played one of the Monsters Of Rock years and as soon as I saw their name I knew it was the band I was looking for - The Quireboys. Just downloading some of their stuff off iTunes to listen to as I work today :D.

Anyone else out there who was at the Chorley Folk festival (July Wakes) 1976 and 1977, two great events at Charnock Richard.

An amazing line up of folk artists which to my mind has never been equalled by any UK folkfestival. Amazing to see the ticket price £5.50

I'd love to be transported back to that age, when we could clamber all over the structures of the terraced gardens at rivvy, and actually have a fest there... mind you I was only 2 in '77!

I take it that "Elf 'n' Safety" have fenced all the structures off now  Not been in the Chinese Gardens for years, not since they started "doing it up". It used to be wonderful just exploring the place back in the 70s, a surprise round nearly every corner. The lake wasn't all that warm for swimming - only did it a couple of times.

Just found another festival from way back, we only went for the evening to see Steve Hillage, it was quite an experience, loads of hippies.
I seem to remember the concert was pretty good but I certainly remember the toilets. You climbed up steps on to a scaffolding platform above a giant vat which was getting alarmingly near to overflowing. :o The second scariest toilets I've ever encountered. :o

A friend recently lent me a Steve Hillage CD from that time, good guitarist but I can't listen to that stuff now. It seemed great in 1978 though ;) :)

Just been looking at the pictures.
I went to Donington in '84
I reckon that year probably had the best line-up ever: I liked ALL the bands

I remember this well:

Actually I was lucky to come out of there alive. A tightly wound coil of metal banding about 1" wide and 8" diameter hit me on the back of the neck! :o
It piggin' hurt! No visible injury though...

Also went the next time AC/DC headlined ('91 I think)
