Samuel Smith Imperial Stout!

History
Russian imperial stout was originally brewed in Great Britain to satisfy the Czarist courts, who were great connoisseurs of Champagne, caviar and the art of the table. Because it was transported across the freezing Baltic, Russian imperial stout was brewed with a high level of alcohol.

Taste
Rich, flavorful, deep chocolate color, scented and roasted barley nose. Complexity of malt, hops, alcohol and yeast.

Serving Suggestions
Espresso, Stilton and walnuts, New York cheesecake, steak au poivre, caviar, Oysters Rockefeller, chocolate Baked Alaska. Easily hold its own in the company of cigars. Serve in a brandy snifter at 60 degrees.

Accolades
Gold Medal, World Beer Championships, 2008; World Champion, Platinum Medal, Imperial Stout

HOOK NORTON DOUBLE STOUT

Pours a pitch black with a sustained beige head. Aroma displays a striking level of complex fruit, ripe plum, raisin, and spicy anis, also tangy spicy English hop character. On the pallet there is an initial malt sweetness which 'gives way to significant levels of ripe stone fruit flavour , towards the end comes a hint of roast malt and finally a hint of hop bitterness. Very individualistic fruity stout.

TBH, Hook Norton don't brew a single bad beer, they're like Samuel Smiths in that they're consistently outstanding in their output.

Brew Dog Riptide Stout

A strong, silky smooth imperial stout with a deep, dark ruby appearance. Mocha, bitter chocolate, liquorice and dark cherry flavours prevail, before the balanced, warming and encapsulating finish.

A contemporary Scottish take on an age old Russian classic style originally brewed for the Tsars. Our interpretation brings together hops from both sides of the Atlantic, amazing flavoured malts and dark sugars.

Like the original BrewDog, this beer would never bite you but would much rather give you a lick on the face. Look Out!

Very, very, very good indeed - I was surprised! I've found most Brew Dog to be a bit OTT, but this was spot on. FULL ON flavour yes, but well-rounded and rich, superb stuff.

Just finished a crate of Ridgeway - 'Lump of coal', 8%, a really luxurious stout, unusually not very bitter, a for the strength a bit too easy to sup!a roasty creamy affair - fantastic !

Now an EX-Bargee, moved onto land,
Boat sold.....sad.

Still round the corner there may wait, A new road or a secret gate,
And though I oft have passed them by, A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run, West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

Nice one Mike, it's a cracking little shop, I'll be going before Xmas again, there's an easy cache around the corner too :-)

Iain that beer will be the Harviestoun one, nice stuff. When you go Mike see if they have any Wooden Hand Black Pearl, or Boewulf Finns Hall porter, both superb !

I didn't see any Black Pearl Pete (and I forgot the name of the other one!) but what I did come home with was:

Marble - Chocolate Marble
Sam Smith's - Winter Welcome Ale
Spire Brewery - Dark Side of the Moon mild
Spire Brewery - Sgt Pepper Stout
Stationhouse - Night Mail
Wincle - Under Taker

as well as two Belgian beauties:
Timmerman's Frambozen
Delerium Nocturnum

and some Dunkertons Black Fox cider!

As you can see, heavy on the dark winter beers :D

On the way home I popped into Booths Knutsford and bought even more stuff:

O'Hanlon's Port Stout
Dent Porter (Limited Edition)
Lancaster Amber (at £1 a bottle!)

Happy times - thanks for the recommendation!

Dragon Stout!

From the people that make D&G Ginger Beer in Jamaica!

7.5%!

Not bad... rather sweet, not "imperial" by any means but worth a try... very different! :P
