NWCaching Football Banter!

If it's in the news, post it here. If it isn't, and it's a load of twaddle, post it here anyway

I see PNE have have settled into their usual position of just outside the play-off place very early this season ;) . They have the worst record for defeats in the play-off's so lets hope they can go one further and get automatic promotion this season :D (We can live in hope).

Still on -25 points. Conceded 4 goals in both games we have played so far and Luton away next. Went to Oxford on Tuesday to see the 4-0 defeat, took ages to get out of the car park afterwards and got home at 1am. Even the caches we did on the way down weren't particularly inspiring. It's shaping up to be a typical Chester season.

Robbie Blake took centre stage at both ends of the pitch during the first half.

I missed Chester's first home win since Boxing Day against Histon last Saturday as I was on holiday so last night was a novel experience as I saw them beat Gateshead 2-1. Only -16 points now.

On t'other hand, Brighton doing a bit better lately. Bit of a wobble against Leeds on Saturday but otherwise not so bad for the past couple of weeks :)

Yeah, two draws and a win is not bad, it gets you above that dreaded dotted line, and on top of that you're still in the FA Cup.

County are just below you, and also still in the FA Cup. On Saturday against Exeter they looked lightweight and experienced, and incapable of finding the net in open play. We equalised with a free kick, then lost it to goals in the 90th and 93rd minutes. :(

Our wonderful manager, Gary Ablett, has said that we're not scoring enough goals and letting too many in, and hopes to address that in training soon!

oohhh eeckk

Late on Sunday afternoon , Wigan Athletic's fans were no doubt wondering why they bother.

Twenty-four hours later, Wigan Athletic's fans were no doubt aware exactly why they bother.

In the wake of their 9-1 destruction by Tottenham White Hart Lane, the Wigan players have decided to make a superb gesture by paying for their tickets of their fans who made the trip to London.

For once, a Premier League football club has listened to and looked upon the plight of their own fans and responded in the most outstanding manner.

I got enough grief on Sunday when driving three Blackburn fans back home after the game. I got the most of it from the 7 year old, and couldn't even give any back because he was right and we were awful.

If he's going to be a Bolton Wanderers fan he needs to be brainwashed correctly and giving him a choice is completely the wrong way to do this. ;)

Just what is this strange fascination for the round-ball game? The true football is Rugby Football, and not that nancy-boy Rugby League version either. ;)

After your ealier comment about Blades fans :o , now calling rugby league 'nancy' on a North-west forum? You could upset people. Tsk :?
I've watched Super league and premiership union, and the tackling is just so much more fierce in league rugby. There's no blubber on the league boys to cushion the impact, unlike the union stockbrokers! Top class union HAS learnt how to tackle and pass from league. But union is just posh blokes engaging in mutual groping.

As far as football goes, I've gone from hoping for promotion to hoping we finish above the Barnsley. No matter what, we'll finish above wendy. ;) At least we know there's one more year of finishing above the cheats from helland road.

Well Bolton need a new manager. I am not celebrating too much as I never had the antipathy for Megson that some of my fellow BWFC fans did. Also I want to wait to see who comes in. Out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind!

If any of the suggestions are true I'd be VERY worried. Peter Reid, Graeme Souness, Steve McLaren & Ian Dowie. It makes me cringe just thinking about it and I'm not really a Bolton fan.

If the fans had given Megson some backing things may have been a bit better. He would not have been my first choice as manager but the fans should have got behind him (minus the knives) right from the start.

Time will tell if today's decision by Gartside was the best one.

I suppose its a reasonable time, as it gives a new manager chance to get at least some of 'their' players in during the transfer window.

Just pray you don't get Robson!

I hadn't thought of Robson and there's also Southgate available as well. :(
Are there actually any decent managers about these days? (and please don't say Hughes, his record at Blackburn wasn't too bad but it couldn't be classed as fantastic) ;)

I was talking about possible replacements with my brother a few weeks back and the only ones I could think of were Dave Jones & Paul Jewel as experienced managers and Darren Ferguson & Mike Newell as up and coming managers (though they both have limited experience). Coyle won't leave Burnley and even though he's doing well at the moment he still has very little experience.

Curbishley has also been mentioned but Charlton always seemed to capitulate after Christmas and I don't know whether he would do any better at the Reebok.

Maybe it's time to try and talk Rioch & Todd into coming back as a double act. They certainly did well last time.

Thought I would bounce this as Chester City were wound up in the courts today so after supporting the club for 43 years and writing the club history amongst a load of other things I no longer have a team to support. Hopefully a phoenix club will rise from the ashes in the summer.

Next time your team gets beaten at home to a last minute goal remember things can be a lot worse.

A sobering thought for all those clubs with huge debts/with tax deadlines/in administration. There are very few clubs who are comfortable, and those are often comfortable because of a benefactor who is willing to put up with a never ending drain on their largesse. :(

I have mates who are Chester fans, and although obviously a seriously bad situation it is what they wanted given the situation, to get rid of the rot within and perhaps a fresh start, a horrible position to be in, I have watched Wigan at Chester, think we drew 1- 1 but it's going back a while now, mid 90's ish

Not taking anything away from that, my team had a momentous first win against Liverpool on Monday, Liverpool were always my '2nd team' when we were in the lower leagues and thought we would never play them apart from the odd and very rare occasion we would be in a higher round cup game (2 legs in 1989), overdue a win, we totally battered them over the 90 mins, a proud day and a massive 3 points for the 'tics.

I have mates who are Chester fans, and although obviously a seriously bad situation it is what they wanted given the situation, to get rid of the rot within and perhaps a fresh start, a horrible position to be in,

I think everyone wanted it because there was no alternative but its still difficult to take. Looking forward to next season though.

On a geocaching link its also scuppered my chances of progressing on the LQ quest because I was doing this with snapperman on our trips around the country watching Chester. Rushden (Northamptonshire), Crawley (east and West Sussex), Ebbsfleet (Kent) and Barrow (cumbria) had been lined up.

Well it wasn't a fantastic result for Bolton was it. Oh dear 4-0. The embarressment and shame of losing 4-0. Now Bolton lost 4-0 to Sunderland, just imagine though just for arguments sake , lets say a team lost 4-0 to Bolton. My word imagine that. They would have to be a really crap team wouldn't they!! :)

But Chas yes, I am really sorry about this. :( Poor Chester. A city the size of Chester should be able to have a league football team. I know what Chester City meant to you. If this was a premiership team (i.e. Portsmouth) there would be an outpouring of sympathy and special help found. I can only hope something decent can arise from the ashes like AFC Wimbledon.

I do like a good Hog Roast, but I think that North Carolina might be a bit far to travel. Thanks for thinking of me though! ;)

so how was your season?

I was at the Reebok yesterday and Bolton won with some very nice football which in a way masked what at times has been quite a traumatic season. I didn't have the hostility towards Megson that a lot of my fellow fans did but even I have to admit at times it was hard work being a Bolton fan and watching
what was served up. In the end Coyle did not get a better points per game average than Megson and in fact finished one place lower in the table. However Coyles team will lose a few then win a few to amass the same number of points as Megons regular scrappy draws so its better to watch.

So I think Bolton are on the up but caution is advised as towards the end of the season all our best players are on loan (Wiess,Wilshire,Klasnic). Also next season we have at least two teams coming up from whatever you call the division below nowadays who can't be garaunteed to be in my annual start of the season "3 teams who Bolton can finish above league".

High points of the season

Giving wigan a right good seeing to! And beating one of my least favourite teams (West Ham) for the 6th time in succession.

Low Points

Two appalling performences against Blackburn Rovers (one for each manager). Also for the second season in a row we have failed to gain a single point against the "Big 4, i.e. Chelsea,Man U,Liverpool, Arsenal") (That's if you can still regard Liverpool as big 4 club?). When we were first promoted to the premier league these teams hated playing us but now we just seem to be easy pickings for them.

Stayed up, beat Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea. and took 6 points off of the delightful dingles to send them back where they belong.

Low points, loads, including the rediculous Spurs and Chelsea results, losing to noblot at the Cheteau of sh##e, some amazing football with no end result... to be honest as a Wigan Ath fan we can't expect European football even though we have been close before, we can expect to lose our best players every years which really pisses me off, but we have now had 6 consecutive years in the Premiership, am I happy ? Damn right ! who would have given us a chance of 2 seasons let alone 6, Wigan and PROUD.
